Today, I represented Blowing in the Wind at the Urban Alliance on Race Relations (UARR)'s Diversity Youth Fellowship Conference at City Hall. It was a great experience listening to the panellists and speakers, and I had some insightful conversations while I was there.
I was particularly engaged by a presentation on the intersection between anti-Black racism and ableism in society, which also delved into critical disability theory - something I hadn't heard of before. I now plan to look into it further (and I suggest you do, too)!
So, let's acknowledge that I felt too awkward to take good photos...
But nonetheless I truly enjoyed this experience and hope to find many more like this in the future.
*To update, as well, on the state of this blog: it has been a year since the first post (which does not exactly count as a post but more of a "add something here" placeholder). My intention for this blog is to provide another platform for diverse voices to be heard. And people can make themselves heard through presenting research, writing news articles, crafting personal essays, and more.
So please contact me at blowinginthewind.youth@gmail.com if you are interested in publishing your work on this blog. We would love to share your story.
Thank you, and see you next time.
